SAMPLE PORTFOLIO

Neuroblastoma Children's Cancer Society
The NCCS is a non-profit group with a great cause: championing medical research for neuroblastoma cancer in children. We redesigned their entire site from the ground-up and provided a back-end administrative interface to manage a large "wall of fame" honoring children with neuroblastoma.

Project highlights:
  • Website design
  • Implementation into PHP/mySQL
  • Back-end administrative interface
  • Content re-organization

  • Wordpress training
Assignment 47
Our friend and associate Steve James needed someone to pick up where another designer/developer left off, with a partial design and broken website code. We took what was available and enhanced it with a Flash video player and updated design template.

  • Flash video player
  • Flash animation of cast and crew
  • Paypal Store implementation
Sherman Health - Mobile
Sherman Hospital opened its new hospital in December, 2009, and wanted to have a mobile version of their website which features a map of the hospital, physician search tool, and sending e-cards to patients. We implemented the design for the mobile website, specifically for iPhone/Android use. (Viewing the mobile version of this site requires a mobile device)

Project highlights:
  • Mobile website development
  • Design implementation
Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble
The Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble was looking to re-design their website as well as help implement a new content structure that was cleaner and would also fit in with an open-source CMS solution. Never mind that we had never worked with this CMS before! We learned quickly on how to build the site with this CMS, regardless of the lack of documentation available. We provided a clean and organized layout, as well as training on how to update the site via the CMS. We also created a Flash slider of the ensemble's members.

Project highlights:
  • Logo enhancement for use on the Web site
  • Flash animation of ensemble members
  • CMS implementation
  • Training on updating the site
National Data Research, Inc.
National Data Research (NDR) has been a long-term client of ours. Their company provides top-of-the-line facilities for conferences, marketing research groups, etc. in Downtown Chicago and north suburban Skokie. We recently updated their site to fit today's Web standards (the original site was built in 2003!) which includes a brand new home page animation featuring photos of the new Skokie location.

Project highlights:
  • Flash animation of facility photos on home page
  • Clean, fresh design implementation for content
  • PDF document production for location details
Nuveen Investments
Nuveen has recently overhauled many of their Web sites, and we were there to help showcase their main product, closed-end funds. We were able to showcase our ability to design for data display and integration with back-end programming. We designed the display for funds, as well as each individual fund detail page and printable fact sheet, using not only designer's tools such as Photoshop, but also ASP.NET components via Visual Studio. We also assisted in designing and organizing a comprehensive educational section on closed-end funds, which utilizes Flash animations to emphasize a variety of financial concepts. We are also currently working on the design and development of a Flash-based site tour for their newest site, CEF Connect.

Along with the CEF site, we also designed or assisted in developing several of Nuveen's fund manager sites, such as Nuveen Asset Management, Hyde Park, Santa Barbara, and Tradewinds.
Design Engage
We had the pleasure of working with Nate Burgos of Design Feast in the design and development of a new resource for design internships, freelance and junior design jobs. We integrated a simple and clean design layout, and developed a slick job posting system which allows a customer to easily purchase and post a listing within minutes. We also developed a back-end administration tool to manage all job postings.

Project highlights:
  • Design implementation into HTML/PHP
  • Robust posting and payments portal
  • Back-end administration for postings
National Home Inspector Examination
The Examination Board of Home Professionals needed a design overhaul to their site for the National Home Inspector Examination. They also wanted to provide a paid directory of training providers for the NHIE. We gave them a bright new look, as well as an easy way to search for training providers and state regulations with a clickable map. We also implemented payment processing for training providers to purchase listings in the directory, as well as an administrative back-end tool to add, edit and remove listings.

Project highlights:
  • New design implementation
  • Training providers search and listing
  • Payment processing for training provider listings
Chicago Symphony Orchestra: Backstage
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra publishes a monthly/bi-monthly newsletter highlighting upcoming concerts and events, as well as advertising for featured artist albums. For about a year we helped bring these publications to the Web, which included refining the page so that it did not have to reload when clicking on each highlighted feature at the top of the page.

Project highlights:
  • Design implementation from print PDF version
  • Adding dynamic HTML capabilities
Chicago Symphony Orchestra: Making Music
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra produced a brochure which provided information about music education centers and performance groups in the Chicagoland area. We created a multimedia version of this brochure in Flash, using music clips, profiles of young musicians, and a dynamic interactive map of all of the resources.

Project highlights:
  • Design implementation from print PDF version into Flash
  • Slick animation of young musician profile photos
  • Interactive map using XML and Flash for easy editing of content
